A Co Down man has been handed a £325,690 confiscation order and 180 hours of community service at Downpatrick Crown Court for dumping waste illegally.
William Robert Morrow (68), from Tullynakill Road in Comber, previously pleaded guilty to three breaches of waste management legislation
He was ordered to pay the £325,690 confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Between November 2015 and April 2016, officers from the Environment Agency investigated a site at Ballydrain Road in Comber, where an estimated 3,942 tonnes of waste was infilled without the required permission.
Controlled waste found on the site included concrete, brick, wood, textiles, metal, electrical wiring, tarmac, plastic bottles, tiles, glass, reinforced kerb stones, plastic piping, plastic wrap, PVC frames, linoleum and brewery piping.
