Fond tributes paid at funeral of tragic teenager

By John Mulgrew

The funeral of 15-year-old David Preece, who died after being hit by a car close to his home, has taken place.

Floods of mourners — young and old — attended the service at St Patrick’s Parish Church in Donaghcloney, Co Down.

The popular Lurgan High pupil was killed as he and his friend walked home from a shop.

Yesterday, the Rev Bryan Martin said David was a “fun loving boy” who had always been close to his twin sister Aimee — born just one minute after her brother in 1997.

“David was a happy, handsome wee lad, who from an early age loved gadgets,” he added.

But Rev Martin said the GCSE student was “no average teenag

er”. “He adored (his sister) to be honest, and she him,” he added.

Following the service he was laid to rest at Blackskull Methodist Church burial ground.

His father Michael had rushed to the scene after his son was struck by the car.

Michael said his lasting|memory of his son would be as|a “brilliant, happy-go-lucky fella”.
