Four held after students block road

Four people have been arrested after students blocked traffic in the centre of Belfast in a protest against a vote at Westminster over an increase in university tuition fees.

A largely good-natured demonstration involving nearly 200 people became more heated after the crowd spilled out on to the main route in front of Belfast City Hall.

There was significant traffic disruption after the crowd failed to disperse.

And following a period of up to two hours, police moved in to clear the road.

A number of bottles and other missiles were thrown at officers before the area was cleared.

Three men, one in his 20s and the others in their teens, along with a teenage girl, were arrested in connection with disorderly behaviour.
