Four held in fuel laundering probe

Four men have been arrested after the discovery of a suspected fuel laundering plant in Co Armagh.

The operation was found in a farm shed in the Jonesborough area.

HM Revenue and Customs officials estimated that the plant was capable of producing more than 4.3 million litres of illicit fuel a year.

More than 8,000 litres of fuel, bleaching earth (used in the laundering process), two cars, pumps, equipment and three tonnes of toxic waste were seized during Friday's operation.

A converted 20ft lorry suspected to be used for transporting laundered fuel was also seized.

The four men, all from Co Armagh, were questioned by HMRC officers and released on bail.
