Four hurt amid raised tensions at east Belfast interface
At least four people were injured in east Belfast last night during sectarian disturbances.
Crowds of youths gathered at a number of points along the Mountpottinger Road interface, between the Short Strand and Newtownards Road, at around 9pm after claims on social networking websites that six shots had been fired in the Montrose Walk area.
One man, who lives nearby, said he did not hear any gunshots during the evening. The PSNI could not confirm what had happened last night.
Another source in east Belfast said the noises mistaken for gunshots were in fact fireworks.
One woman, who did not wish to be named, told the Belfast Telegraph: "This crowd from the Short Strand had sticks, bottles and they hit me in the leg with a big boulder.
"One man was down on the ground and they looked like they were about to drop a boulder on his head."
