Four men arrested in investigation into child sex abuse in Co Down

Officers from the PSNI's Public Protection Branch arrested four men on Monday as part of an investigation into historical sexual abuse of children.

The men aged 70, 55, 54 and 52 were arrested in the Newtownards, Lisburn, Downpatrick and Newcastle areas.

Police said the arrests are in relation to an investigation into allegations of serious historical sexual child abuse in the Co. Down area.

They have been taken to Antrim Police Station to assist police with their enquiries.

It is understood that the arrests are not linked to the investigation into the crimes of former Co Down priest Fr Malachy Finnegan.
