Fresh figures show Belfast Telegraph one of top performers in the UK
Fresh figures for the Belfast Telegraph show the newspaper to be one of the best performing in the United Kingdom.
And together with latest figures from our online service they reveal that once again the Belfast Telegraph is the biggest news service in Northern Ireland with a wider and more varied audience than any other media outlet in the province.
Today’s figures released by audit company ABC allow comparisons with similar newspapers throughout Great Britain and Northern Ireland. And they make good reading for the Belfast Telegraph.
The newspaper’s year on year figures for the first half of 2014 was 2.5 per cent down. The best performing comparable English regional title was down by 8.3 per cent while the average fall in England, Scotland, Wales and in Northern Ireland was 13 per cent.
And alone in all newspapers including those here in Northern Ireland the Belfast Telegraph recorded a sales increase period on period (Jul to December 2013 against Jan to June 2014) of one per cent while all other titles bar none declined.
And figures recently released for Belfast Telegraph.co.uk show the site had 3.3 million unique users in July a rise of 45 per cent year on year and more than 19 million page impressions a 13c per cent year on year rise.
Although it is difficult to make historical comparisons the figures mean Belfast Telegraph journalism is being read by as many people as any time in its history.
Editor Mike Gilson said: "Newspapers are transforming themselves from print only businesses to multi media platform companies. The Belfast Telegraph has been well ahead of the curve in this.
"Now not only is our digital reach soaring but our newspaper, with its dynamic look and campaigning zeal, is performing well.
"If you look at the newspapers we compare ourselves to, big regional, wide ranging titles that serve all parts of their community such as those in Newcastle, Liverpool and Glasgow, you can see just how well we are doing both in paper and online.
“This is a testament to the team here and of course the readers and advertisers who support us."
