Funeral for Northern Ireland teacher Craig Church who died in China

The funeral has taken place of Northern Ireland teacher Craig Church who died in China.

The 27-year-old is understood to have died after falling down a number of flights of stairs.

The funeral service took place at the Church of St John the Baptist Agherton Parish in Portstewart

Craig taught English to primary school children in the city of Rui'an on the eastern coast of China, where he lived for over two years.

His death sparked hundreds of online tributes.

One family friend posted on Facebook: "So sad to hear about Craig, he was one of those very rare people in the world that everyone loved within minutes of meeting him.

"He was an example of how we should live our lives."

Portstewart Football Club posted online: "The committee would like to offer their condolences to our past player and true friend Ian and the entire Church family on the tragic passing of Craig."

TUV councillor Sharon McKillop said she was "deeply saddened by the news".

His tragic death sparked dozens of online tributes.

His sister Carrie posted a picture of her brother on Facebook hours after his death.

One friend said: "My heart goes out to you Carrie Church. I know there are no words to ease the pain but just know you are not alone. Craig was so loved by so many and we all stand with you now."
