Funeral held for mother of Northern Ireland jockey AP McCoy

The funeral for the mother of champion jockey AP McCoy has taken place in Moneyglass.

The funeral service took place at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Moneyglass, with the burial immediately afterwards in the adjoining cemetery on Friday.

Jockey McCoy announced her passing on Tuesday.

"My beautiful mother Claire passed away peacefully this evening with all her family around," he said in an online tribute.

"The most incredible wife to my Dad and mother to myself, Annemarie, Roisin, Jane, Colm and Kelly."

During her son's career, Claire expressed concern about the risks attached to horse riding.

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph in 2015 ahead of her son's last Grand National, she said: "The past 20 years have been good, but they have also been a tough 20 years."
