By Victoria O'Hara

Friends and family of murder victim Brian McIlhagga gathered yesterday for his funeral.

Mr McIlhagga (42) was killed by a masked gang outside a house at Riverview Park in Ballymoney just before 10.30pm last Monday.

The funeral service took place at the family home on Cromkill Road.

Mourners joined the cortege, which made its way to Ballymena Cemetery for the burial.

The father-of-five, from Ballymena, had been beaten and shot in the leg.

Despite resuscitation efforts by neighbours, he died at the scene.

Police said he had suffered a "sustained and vicious attack".

Mr McIlhagga had been visiting his girlfriend at the time.

She was beaten in the attack and needed hospital treatment for her injuries. Three men arrested in connection with the murder have all been released unconditionally.
