Funeral of Bangor murder victim Colin Horner

by staff reporter

There was a heavy police presence at the funeral of Northern Ireland murder victim Colin Horner in Bangor on Monday, June 5.

Colin Horner, 35, was shot dead by a lone gunman among crowds of shoppers outside the Sainsbury’s superstore on the outskirts of Bangor, Co Down, on Sunday, May 28.

It is understood Mr Horner, from Carrickfergus, had recently relocated to Bangor amid fears he would be targeted in the same loyalist paramilitary feud that claimed the life of his friend, George 'Geordie' Gilmore, two months ago. Mr Gilmore (44) was shot dead in Carrickfergus in March.

Police, who believe a total of six bullets were fired during the shooting, have described the killing as  "barbaric and reckless”.

The PSNI has made a number of arrests in relation to the incident.
