The funeral of a woman who died in a drowning incident took place yesterday.

Mourners paid their final respects to Edelle McGlade, from Portstewart in Co Londonderry, at a service at Star of the Sea Church yesterday.

The devoted mother, who was aged in her 40s, died after falling into the River Bann at Portglenone in the early hours of Thursday morning.

It is believed she had been out on a boat on the river close to the village when she entered the water. Ms McGlade was from a well-known family and was said to be active in her community.

Following requiem yesterday afternoon, Ms McGlade was buried in Agherton cemetery on the outskirts of the north coast town.

She is survived by her three children, Ruairi, Eilis and Riain.

A death notice said her passing was "deeply regretted by her sorrowing sons, daughter, mother, brother, sisters, brothers in law and family circle".
