Funeral of tragic schoolboy (12) found dead at his home

By Claire Williamson

The funeral of a 12-year-old boy who died suddenly at his home at the weekend is being held this morning.

James Babe was a pupil at St Paul's High School in south Armagh where he is understood to have just completed his first year.

The schoolboy was found dead at his home in the village on Saturday. He had two sisters and lived with his parents in the village of Belleeks. The family's parish priest said they were completely traumatised and in shock.

Sinn Fein councillor Roisin Mulgrew said there was a "devastated house and a devastated community".

She said: "We are just asking people to give them their space and support.

"It's a tragedy. The whole community is devastated. It's a very close-knit community."

SDLP councillor John Feehan extended his condolences to the family.

He said: "My sympathy goes out to the parents and family of the young chap. It's just very sad."

Requiem Mass will be held at St Lawrence O'Toole Church in Belleeks with the burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
