By Claire McNeilly

The funeral has taken place of a 53-year-old man who was murdered in east Belfast.

Mark Ponisi died in the living room of a flat on London Road, off the Ravenhill Road, on Saturday, January 20. Police said the father-of-two had sustained injuries to his head and face.

Requiem Mass was held in St Paul's Church in west Belfast followed by burial in the City Cemetery.

Mr Ponisi's son Mark and daughter Shannon paid a moving tribute to him following his death last month.

A notice in this newspaper read: "No farewell words were spoken, no time to say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it and only God knows why. Love and miss you always. Rest in peace daddy."

He is also survived by his brothers Jim, Francis and Liam, and grandchildren Aaron and Kaylin.

A 25-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman have been charged with the murder.
