The funeral of an 11-year-old footballer who died in hospital a week after suffering a cardiac arrest takes place today.

Sammy Haveron passed away in the Royal Victoria Hospital last Wednesday after becoming unwell while training with Wellington Rec Youth Football Club in Larne.

The keen footballer, who was a pupil at Linn Primary School in Larne, will be buried after a funeral service in First Larne Presbyterian Church at noon today.

In the aftermath of his death, parents Gina and Edwin - who have two other boys, Lewis and Frankie - made a decision to donate their son's organs in the hope of preventing other families going through the same ordeal that they have had to endure.

The grieving family have asked for donations in lieu of flowers to be given to the Helping Hand at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children.

Wellington chairman Gary Morrow said: "We as a club are devastated to lose Sammy.

"He loved his football and loved Wellington Rec.

"Our thoughts go out to Eddie, Gina and the family at this devastating time."
