Funeral takes place of gun attack victim Wayne Boylan

The funeral has taken place of Wayne Boylan, who was killed in a gun attacked in Warrenpoint, Co Down, on Friday.

A Requiem Mass for Mr Boylan (37) was held at St Peter's Church on Wednesday morning before he was buried in Warrenpoint Municipal Cemetery.

He was killed after two masked gunmen burst into a flat on Lower Dromore Road, near Warrenpoint Golf Club, at around 7.30pm on January 18.

A family notice described Mr Boylan as the beloved son of the late Shirley, dearly loved brother of Keith and Kerry, much-loved partner of Saoirse and a loving father of two.

Mr Boylan was struck in the head by the shotgun blast, while a woman in the house was hit in the face and neck by pellets from the same round before the killers fled the scene.

Police said there was no clear motive yet for the murder, but officers were following two lines of enquiry linked to drugs and paramilitaries.

Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Boyce said Mr Boylan had returned from a local off-licence 10 to 15 minutes before the attack and may have been followed to the house.

Police confirmed that Mr Boylan was in the flat with two other people, including the injured woman.
