Further heartache for children who lost parents Frankie and Donna Brown within 19 days

Funeral to take place for Donna Brown

By Angela Rainey

Heartache has struck an already grieving family with a third death in less than three weeks.

Last week the Belfast Telegraph reported how father-of-three Frankie Brown (46) died from a short illness on May 5, then only 19 days later wife Donna (48) died suddenly.

The Monkstown couple left behind devastated children Lucinda (23), Frankie Jr (15) and Kyle (14).

Now a third member of the family, Mrs Kathleen Murray, believed to be the children's great-grandmother has passed away, aged 89. She had been ill for some time and died yesterday.

When the shock news broke of Mr and Mrs Brown's death, neighbours and friends in the Newtownabbey area rallied round the children and set up a fundraising page to receive donations from the community to help them out financially.

So far, a Carl Frampton signed boxing glove, which is being auctioned, has reached £300 while a online fundraising appeal was just short of £4,000 last night.

Workers in the area offered to donate wages and tips while businesses also offered to assist the children with a donation.

But no amount of money will compensate the children, who are now preparing to say their final farewell to their mother today after saying goodbye to their father just a few weeks ago. Funeral arrangements for Mrs Murray are not yet known.

Speaking at the time of their mother's death on May 25, the boys said they had been touched by the kindness of local people but were understandably inconsolable following their parents' passing.

"We have been hit with the biggest blow over the last three weeks," the boys said.

"On the 5th of May, we lost our daddy he was 46... and sadly 19 days later on the 24th we lost our beautiful mummy, she was only 48. We are absolutely devastated but overwhelmed too by the kindness and support from the local community. The months ahead will be tough.

Mrs Brown's funeral will take place today from Wiltons funeral home on the Shore Road at 9am before going on to Carmoney Cemetery for burial.
