GAA club wins £4k boost for facilities

By Brendan McDaid

Londonderry's oldest GAA club has received a financial boost to upgrade their facilities.

Sean Dolan's GAC in Creggan was awarded more than £4,000 from the Ulster Bank GAA Force initiative, which aims to support local GAA clubs by giving them the opportunity to refurbish and upgrade their facilities.

It was introduced this summer to coincide with Ulster Bank's sponsorship of the GAA Football All-Ireland Championships.

Sean Dolan's was awarded a support package worth £4,400 as one of four provincial runners-up from a total of 378 GAA clubs across Ireland who applied.

The club now plans to replace access to an all-weather training area and give a facelift to what has been deemed “an essential community asset”.

Chairman Hugh Wilkinson said: “This support package will help us renovate and make full use of our grounds and clubhouse and it will make a very positive contribution to our community.”
