Game of Thrones: US thrash metal band Anthrax to record next album in Westeros throne room in Belfast

By John Mulgrew

Thrash metal stalwarts Anthrax have revealed they are set to record part of their new album in the grand surroundings of the Game of Thrones set in Belfast.

The foreboding backdrop of the Iron Throne will play host to the group, who are set to track drums at Titanic Studios.

It's the same set which the Queen visited during her three-day visit to Northern Ireland last month.

Five piece New York metal outfit Anthrax - one of the four big pioneers of thrash metal in the 1980s - played at the Limelight in Belfast as recently as last week.

A huge fan of the series, guitarist Scott Ian revealed the band would record drums for their upcoming release in the throne room.

He told the Metal Hammer Magazine Show the opportunity arose when he discovered one of the show's executive producers, DB Weiss, was a fan of the group.

"I asked Dan Weiss 'Hey man, what would be the possibility of us recording the drums for the next album in the throne room?" he said.

"He says - 'oh my God that would be the sickest thing ever. We know the guys that can make that possible."

Last week it was confirmed Belfast would once again provide a backdrop for the fantasy epic.

Shooting for the fifth series of the hit sex and swords fantasy drama will start in Belfast's Titanic Studios.

The show has already generated more than £87m for the economy and also created more than 900 full-time jobs and 5,700 part-time jobs.
