Gang attack in Belfast play park

A gang attacked a man with baseball bats in a Belfast play park on Sunday afternoon.

Detectives are appealing for information following the serious assault in the Ormeau Avenue area of the city.

Detective Sergeant Neil Maxwell said: "Police received a report shortly after midday that as a male and female were in the play park three males brandishing what is believed to be baseball bats approached them and assaulted the male.

"He sustained injuries to his head, legs, arms and back.

"He received hospital treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening."

The woman was not injured.

The three attackers are described as being in their late thirties, with:

  • Medium build, approximately 6ft tall, very light coloured short hair and wearing a red short sleeved top and light coloured shorts;
  • Approximately 5'9" tall and wearing a blue jacket with long sleeves and long dark trousers/tracksuit bottoms;
  • The third male is described as having short dirty fair hair and wearing a red jacket with long sleeves and long dark trousers.

Witnesses are asked to contact Musgrave on the non emergency number, 101.
