Gang break into Belfast house with 'sticks' and assault woman

Four men and a woman forced their way into a house armed with 'sticks' and assaulted a woman on Thursday night.

Detectives are appealing for information following the report of an aggravated burglary at a house in Witham Street, east Belfast, shortly after 7pm.

The attackers were described as carrying "poles or sticks".

Once inside the house they assaulted the female occupier and caused damage to the interior.

It is believed the assailants left the scene in a small yellow car and a silver people carrier type vehicle.

The woman required treatment for minor injuries.

Detective Sergeant Conor Sweeney would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact Detectives at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101.

Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
