Gang of six men armed with knives and hammer tie up Co Down family during robbery

A gang of six armed men tied up a family before attacked one man with a hammer during an aggravated burglary in Co Down.

One of the victims suffered bruising to his back after being struck with a hammer during the robbery which happened at a house in the Drumbane Road area of Moira on Saturday.

Four masked men armed with a knives and a hammer forced their way into the house, while two others remained outside.

The gang forced two men and a woman, along with three children, into a room before tying up the adults.

They were threatened while the men ransacking the house.

Two other family members who arrived a time later were also tied up during the robbery.

One man suffered bruising to his neck during the ordeal while the others were unharmed.

The group made off with a sum of cash, and also stole a blue coloured Volkswagen Golf, registration number GL59 PYV belonging to one of the members of the family.

Police have said all six men are being dressed in dark coloured jackets, tracksuits and trainers. They all wore woollen gloves with balaclavas covering their faces.

Four are described as being approximately 5'8"- 5'11" tall and of slim build, one was much shorter and the last one was over 6' tall, heavy build with grey hair.
