Gang tries to steal cash machine by blowing it up with explosives

Would-be thieves tried to steal a cash point from a petrol station in Co Armagh by blowing it up.

The gang used explosives to try and free the machine at a filling station on Annareagh Road, Hamiltonsbawn.

It happened at around 2.30am on Thursday morning, after police received reports of a loud bang in the area.

It's not clear whether any money was taken.

The would-be thieves then made off in a black Audi towards Markethill. It was later found abandoned on the Gosford Road.

Army bomb teams attended the scene today, making safe a device and removing it for further examination.

Police have appealed for information.
