GCSE results: Place at Ivy League college beckons for Aidan
It was a triple celebration for one pupil yesterday after his GCSE results and athletic prowess brought him to the attention of one of America's top universities.
Aidan Murray, who attends St Killian's College in Carnlough, secured 10A* grades.
The teenager is also a talented rower, having just taken up the sport in 2012.
His academic success comes just days after Aidan finished third in the senior singles and was second fastest in the juniors at the All-Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships.
Aidan, who has a great track record in athletics, is also a promising pianist. His rowing and academic achievements have caught the attention of Yale University.
And the top Ivy League college is keen to offer Aidan a scholarship.
Aidan said: "Around the time I was thinking about my GCSE choices, I took up rowing. It was all very new to me, the technique etc but I'm pleased because things have been going really well.
"I am delighted with my results, and I want to thank my parents who help me a lot in organising my time between school work and all the other hobbies and sports I have."
The Larne student says he is now intending to study maths, biology, French and chemistry at A-Level.
