Gen up on new fire rules

Fire Safety legislation changed on November 15 and Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) is hosting two free information days in Belfast on December 9 and 10 December to inform businesses how it will impact on all non-domestic premises.

The information days will last from 11am to 3pm at Fire & Rescue Service Training Centre, 79 Boucher Crescent Belfast with presentations on the hour every hour.

Everyone is welcome to attend to talk to their local Firefighters about the new Fire Safety Legislation and there is no need to pre book places.

The change in legislation seeks to replace and simplify existing fire safety legislation in a non-domestic premises using a modern risk based approach to fire prevention.

Put simply, it means that any person who has some level of control in premises must take reasonable steps to reduce the risk from fire and make sure people can safely escape if there is a fire. This will in most instances have to be recorded within a Fire Risk Assessment.

Further information about the new regulations can be found on the NIFRS website,
