The North of Ireland Family History Society will celebrate 40 years this weekend with a special event in Co Antrim featuring one of the world's leading genealogists.

US visitor Donna Moughty has been conducting family research for over 25 years.

The world renowned expert teaches and lectures on the subject and will be at the Hilton Hotel in Templepatrick tomorrow at 2.30pm.

Her talk - 'Finding American Cousins' - will show how people in Northern Ireland interested in tracing their roots and discovering family secrets can access US records and what they can tell us about families back at home.

The event is open to all, costing £5 for admission.

In another event, members of the Causeway Branch of the Society are holding a Family History Drop-In Day at the Heritage Room in Coleraine Library today from 11am to 4pm, where people can learn about family trees.

Booking is not required at either event.
