Giant's Causeway Visitor Centre beats visitor target
The Giant's Causeway Visitor Centre has beaten visitor targets for its first year by more than 100,000.
Yesterday, the National Trust revealed that the new centre had attracted 782,000 visitors from 173 countries since it opened in July 2012 – beating its annual 645,000 target.
A giant birthday cake was commissioned to mark the celebration, with a local baker from Armoy, Cherry Blossom Cake Company, winning a competition to provide the unique cake.
Meanwhile the oldest and youngest visitors to the centre also took part in the birthday festivities. John McKay, aged 97, worked as a 'flag' boy on the tram that used to bring visitors to Giant's Causeway.
Today the birthday celebrations continue, with admission free for the day.
