Girl finds bag of drugs in Downpatrick play park

By Staff Reporter

A bag of drugs has been found by a 10-year-old girl in a play park in County Down.

The PSNI issued a warning after the bag, discovered in Downpatrick, was found to contain amphetamine, more commonly known as speed.

The child gave the bag to an adult, who then handed it in to police.

The play park is located on the Colmcille Road in Downpatrick.

Officers who tested the white powder confirmed that it was amphetamines.

A PSNI spokesman said: "It's probably a parent's worst nightmare for their child to find something like this, never mind where they thought was a place of safety.

"Thankfully, they had the sense to not open it but to give it to a grown-up."

Police have advised parents to talk to their children about the dangers of drugs.

SDLP councillor Colin McGrath urged anyone with information about the find to go to the police immediately.
