Lord Mayor of Belfast Arder Carson has posted out a Christmas card designed by a local toddler.

Entitled Footprint Snowmen, the graphic on the front of the card uses the footprints of two-year-old Caoilte from Belfast, who uses the services of the Northern Ireland Children's Hospice, Horizon House.

The Lord Mayor said: "I felt this was a poignant image and hopefully will help all of us think of how precious life is and the importance of thinking of others, particularly at this time of the year."

The NI Children's Hospice cares for 300 children and young people, and their families, every year.

A spokesman for the charity said: "Artwork is one of the many activities enhancing the experience of children - the messier the better. For these children and their families, artwork has the added dimension of generating precious life-long memories of the presence and impact of short lives.

"We are delighted that an example of our art has been used as the illustration for the Lord Mayor's Christmas card.

"This is a lovely recognition of how each child can be supported to express themselves."
