Glenavon footballer's treatment for tumour

A Glenavon footballer who had a tumour removed from his brain now requires more treatment.

Following a routine six-monthly brain scan, Mark Farren was advised he requires a six-week course of preventative radiotherapy.

The former Derry City striker returned to the pitch in 2011 less than a year after he had a tumour removed from his brain.

Mark was told he had the low-grade benign tumour during Christmas 2008, but incredibly played during the 2009/10 season before his condition forced him off the field for 10 months.

Glenavon said in a statement last night: "The directors, coaching staff, players and supporters of Glenavon FC extend their very best wishes to Mark and hope that the course of treatment goes well for him."
