Glenavon to sponsor cup tie in memory of fan Paddy Allen
Glenavon FC players will sponsor a match in memory of one of the club's biggest fans.
Mourneview Park boss Gary Hamilton said Paddy Allen (35) had epitomised everything that a supporter should be.
He revealed that Mr Allen, who died on Sunday, had planned to sponsor a Glenavon match against Portstewart.
Now the players will sponsor the League Cup tie in August as a tribute.
Mr Allen's funeral will take place in St John's Parish Church, Moira, tomorrow at 2pm followed by interment in the churchyard.
Hamilton said: "Even if you were getting beaten he always believed that you could win the game. That belief he had definitely spread through our boys who all had a high respect for him, so much so that, as a tribute to Paddy, who was intending to sponsor the match against Portstewart, they have decided to sponsor it themselves. That's how highly thought of he was."
As well as being a "popular player and loyal supporter" of Waringstown Cricket Club, Mr Allen was well-known in horse racing circles and operated Moira Cross Country and Schooling Gallops.
He was also a former member of Lurgan Rugby Club and Ulster Rugby.
