Global interest as NI collector puts 100 vintage tractors up for auction
It's the sale of the century for vintage tractor fans.
A vast private collection of over 100 classic and historic tractors plus associated equipment has just been put up for auction.
The collection, amassed over decades by collector John Flynn, goes under the hammer on April 15 at Euro Auctions in Dromore, and is expected to raise at least £1m.
The collection is reputed to be one of the best in private hands, and includes many historically important models from the 50s and 60s, with several pre-1940s examples.
The classic vehicles have been lovingly restored where needed, and are said to have been well maintained and in full working order.
All the tractors have been stored in museum-like conditions in Northern Ireland rather than being regularly driven.
According to the auction house, this once-in-a-lifetime sale is generating considerable interest from enthusiasts and collectors from right around the globe.
Jonnie Keys, operations manager for Euro Auctions, said: "Over the past 40 years John Flynn has spent thousands of hours scouring the world, spending tens of thousands of pounds to assemble this unique collection, in what became a life-long passion."
"John has now decided to put everything up for sale, all as unreserved individual lots in a single day event," the auctioneer explained.
"Whilst his interest in heritage tractors has not waned, increased business interests in Asia have resulted in him deciding to sell this vast collection.
"This means that some of the rarest and best examples will now become available for others to own, care for and preserve for future generations to enjoy," Mr Keys told the Belfast Telegraph.
Among the Flynn collection are almost 30 Massey Ferguson vehicles. Other marques include some stunning examples of tractors from David Brown, Deutz, and more.
"This is a unique private collection, which includes many historically important tractors," Mr Keys added.
"We were delighted when we were approached to manage this unreserved sale.
"And we've already received considerable interest from collectors and individuals from around the globe interested in acquiring their own little part of this heritage collection," he added.
