Gun charges after police arrest man in Bangor

By Staff Reporter

A man has been charged with a number of firearms offences after an incident involving a machete at a Co Down house.

The 31-year-old man was arrested in Bangor after a woman was found locked in a car and a two-foot-long machete recovered.

Police investigating the incident at Fort Terrace on Sunday morning have now charged a 31-year-old man with possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances, carrying a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence and possession of an offensive weapon.

He is due to appear at Newtownards Magistrates Court today. The charges will be reviewed by the PPS.

The PSNI said a man had been attempting to enter another man's house, but fled the scene before officers arrived.

In a search of the area a woman, a passenger in the car, was found locked in the vehicle. PSNI officers forced the car open and freed the woman before seizing the machete and car.
