A bomb and a gun that may have been used to shoot dead Northern Ireland journalist Lyra McKee were found close to where children had built a woodland den, it has emerged.

The deadly weapons were found during a PSNI search operation in Londonderry and are believed to belong to the New IRA.

A control box with a switch marked 'Arm' and red 'Fire' button was discovered with the bomb, which was fully primed and ready to be deployed.
