Gym worker took pictures of man having shower in cubicle
The reputation of a staff member at a gym is "in tatters" after he admitted two charges of voyeurism on a male using the facility, a court has heard.
Mario McKinney (40), of Elm Close in Londonderry, admitted the offences which occurred on August 15.
The court heard a man had gone to the shower area after using the gym. The showers were of frosted glass and he noticed a patch damaged and consisting of just clear glass.
He then saw a pair of shoes in the next cubicle and a mobile phone pressed up against the patch of clear glass.
He confronted McKinney, who told him he was a member of staff and was taking a picture of the damage to get it repaired.
The man complained and the phone was checked, but no photos were found. Police were contacted and McKinney maintained that as part of his job he was photographing the damage.
However, when his phone was examined forensically two deleted pictures of the man in the shower were found.
McKinney said that it was a "moment of insanity" and he deeply regretted it.
Defence solicitor Derwin Harvey said that his client pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and wanted to express his "regret and apologies" to the injured party.
The solicitor said it was "an unsavoury type of incident", adding that his "reputation lay in tatters".
McKinney was sentenced to 18 months' probation, ordered to sign the sex offenders' register and to pay £500 in compensation to his victim.
