Halloween party row sparked assault

A 26-year-old man chased his partner around their home and then assaulted her in a row sparked by his late return from last year's Halloween festivities.

Peter Gamble, from St Eithne's Park in Londonderry, appeared at the city's Magistrates Court yesterday where he also admitted causing criminal damage to a door after his partner locked herself in the bathroom. Gamble committed the offences on November 1 of last year in their then Argyle Street home.

Defence solicitor Dermot Walker said Gamble, who has two children by his partner, was remorseful and that they "have resumed their seven-year long relationship".

Mr Walker said the row started when Gamble went out with pals to enjoy Halloween "only to return the following day".

He is to be sentenced on November 29 after a pre-sentence report.
