By Staff Reporter

A young couple on their way home were confronted by a gang brandishing hammers, police have said.

Detectives in Lisburn said that a 19-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman were returning to their home in Poleglass on Friday evening when they came face to face with the three armed men.

It happened in the Glenwood Green area shortly before 7pm.

Detective Inspector Michelle Shaw said: "The man made off from the three males, who gave chase.

"The woman continued to the property and discovered that entry had been forced and damage caused to an internal door.

"No one was injured during the incident but both were left shaken by their ordeal.

"I would appeal to anyone with any information about this incident to contact CID in Lisburn Police Station on the non emergency number 101.

"Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
