Hammer used in cashbox raid

Detectives are appealing for information after a man brandishing a hammer made off with a cashbox from a busy Belfast shopping street yesterday.

The robbery occurred in the Castle Street area of the city centre at around 3.30pm.

A man approached a cash-in-transit crew who were collecting a cashbox from a nearby clothes shop, brandishing a hammer and demanding the money.

He then made off with the cash box in a vehicle towards the Fountain Street area.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
