Michaela McAreavey’s desperate screams for help during the brutal attack which led to her murder went ignored, police said today.

Detectives in Mauritius revealed Raj Theekoy, one of three men charged in connection with her killing, heard her dying cries – but did nothing.

Michaela (pictured right), who is the daughter of Tyrone boss |Mickey Harte, was found strangled in the bathtub of her honeymoon suite at the luxury Legends resort on Monday.

Speaking today, Inspector Ranjid Jokhoo confirmed that one |suspect had made a confession, while another had made a statement.

“Raj Theekoy, who is charged with conspiracy, told us he had seen and heard the victim screaming, but he didn't do anything,” he said.

There were tearful scenes as Mrs McAreavey’s body began its journey back home this morning.

Her widower John and her brother Mark were in Mauritius as her coffin was taken from the hospital morgue to the airport, where it will be flown to London on the first stage of its journey home.

The funeral is expected to take place on Monday at St Malachy’s Church near Ballygawley, Co Tyrone, where Michaela was married last December 30.
