Hillsborough creeper burglaries suspect freed on bail

A man arrested after a spate of creeper burglaries that ended when a stolen BMW crashed into a wall has been released on bail.

The 25-year-old was arrested early on Saturday after a number of break-ins in Hillsborough.

Police said a man had earlier entered a property at Downshire Hall, Hillsborough, where he took a set of car keys.

However, he was disturbed while trying to steal the vehicle and made off into Gloucester Park.

Here he attempted to smash the front door of a property with a boulder, but was unsuccessful and made off again.

The man then entered a private dwelling at Abercorn Drive where he took keys of a black BMW vehicle and a number of other items.

The BMW was later involved in a collision with a wall. No other vehicles or people were involved.

Police said the male was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving whilst unfit, burglary and attempted burglary.

PSNI Constable Richard Hill urged residents in the area with CCTV systems to check their recordings, as there had been a number of attempts to force entry.

Yesterday, they added that the arrested man haD been released on bail pending further enquiries.
