Holly Hamilton lands dream TV anchor job on Scotland Tonight

A Co Down woman is taking Scottish TV by storm as she reads the news on the country’s big evening programme, Scotland Tonight.

Holly Hamilton from Greyabbey is the new anchor on the show after rising through radio to end up as the face of the local news.

The 26-year-old went to Scotland to study at Dundee University eight years ago and stayed after landing jobs with Radio Tay and then STV. She says her latest post is her dream job and she is proud to be flying the flag for Northern Ireland.

Holly admitted she gets some criticism for her pronunciation of Scottish place names.

“Twitter went crazy after my first broadcast when I pronounced Milngavie the way it is spelt and not the way it sounds.”

She told a Sunday newspaper: “I managed to crack all the bizarre Highlands and islands lingo but Glasgow is a blank canvas and I’m back to where I started. But I’m loving my new job as I’m getting to present, report and produce. Everyone is so friendly.”
