Hospital boss sues newspaper
A senior health trust official was wrongly linked to an alleged cover-up surrounding the death of a child in hospital 10 years ago, the High Court heard yesterday.
Lawyers for Bridget O'Rawe claimed she was libelled in a series of newspaper articles which examined the case of Lucy Crawford.
Lucy died aged 17 months in April 2000 after treatment at the Erne Hospital in Enniskillen. An inquest found that a drip she was put on after being admitted with gastroenteritis was mismanaged.
The toddler suffered brain swelling and later died after being transferred to hospital in Belfast.
Ms O'Rawe, who was director of corporate affairs at the Sperrin Lakeland Trust, is suing the publishers of the Impartial Reporter.
Opening the jury action, her barrister David Ringland QC said: "What we say is these articles set out to show, amongst other things, that my client was involved in the cover-up.
"She had no role to play in any cover-up and she did not do things at all that the defendants say she did."
The hearing continues today.
