House fire victim to be laid to rest in Eglinton

By Donna Deeney

The funeral of Helga (Hilda) McAteer, who lost her life in a house fire in Limavady, will be held this afternoon at St Canice's Church of Ireland in Eglinton.

Ms McAteer, believed to have been aged in her 50s, died in the early hours of Monday morning from the effects of smoke inhalation after the blaze at her home in Grange Park, Limavady.

A member of the public alerted the Fire Service after noticing smoke coming from the house, but Ms McAteer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Fire Service has since said the blaze was accidental.

Originally from Eglinton, Ms McAteer made Limavady her home for the past 10 years, where her neighbours paid tribute to her.

Removal is from her sister's home on Ballygudden Road in Eglinton at 2pm for the service at St Canice's Church at 3pm.

Speaking earlier this week Alan Robinson, a DUP councillor for Limavady, said the whole town had been stunned by the death.
