Friendly households in south Belfast are being sought to host international volunteers who are spending three months in the city as part of Global Xchange, a partnership programme managed by the British Council and leading international development charity VSO.
Global Xchange will be bringing 16 young people from South Africa, Sierra Leone, France and USA together with four youngsters from Belfast to give 6,000 hours of voluntary service to the local community.
The young people are now searching for hospitable families who’ll be able to lend them a room for two to 12 weeks between January and March next year.
This will be the first time Belfast has taken part in the youth exchange following on from a community exchange for youth workers earlier this year. The programme will start for the twenty young volunteers with three months in Durban, South Africa from October.
Claire Faithorn, Global Xchange programme supervisor, said: “Hosts are offered a weekly allowance to contribute towards accommodation and food costs and will be supported by two project supervisors.
“It’s a chance to learn a more about the other four countries participating in the exchange, and take part in a successful and innovative community project.”
