Hundreds attend funeral of Conan Anderson

By Claire McNeilly

Hundreds of mourners paid their final respects at the funeral of Conan Anderson (22) yesterday.

The community worker died after he suffered a serious head injury during an incident after a night out in Belfast city centre last month.

Requiem Mass was held at 11am in St Matthew's Church in his native Short Strand. After the service, the procession stopped at Doyle Football Club where he worked as a youth coach.

Members of the local community, including some of the youngsters from the club, held a minute's silence as Mr Anderson's heartbroken family and friends surrounded his coffin.

Mr Anderson passed away on Saturday, February 18 from a head injury sustained at Arthur Lane in the early hours of Monday February 6.

Lawrence Dowie (27), whose address cannot be published for legal reasons, has appeared in court charged with Mr Anderson's manslaughter. He is currently out on bail.
