Hundreds pay their respects to Co Tyrone man Mark McGarvey who died suddenly on Christmas Eve

Social media was swamped with well-wishers paying their respects to Mark McGarvey, who passed away in his sleep on Christmas Eve.

The funeral for the Cookstown man was held today.

Announcing the death on Christmas Eve, his father George said: "It's with a heavy heart that I'm informing my friends and family that our youngest son, Mark passed away in his sleep early this morning. 

"Mark had been in good enough health, and the suddenness of his death is even more difficult to deal with."

Since the announcement of the death, hundreds paid their respects and offered their condolences on Facebook.

One friend posted: "My heart goes out to the McGarvey family, a gentleman and a true friend that brought so many smiles to countless faces, hope you are smiling down on me bud."

Another added: "Mark was certainly the life and soul of every party. Such a good-hearted fella.

"RIP Mark you will be missed by us all."

Mr McGarvey said the family was "truly humbled" by the kind messages over the past couple of days and that they were of "great comfort".

He said: "Thanks so much everyone for your heartfelt condolences. Greatly appreciated by the family. 

"Mark will be sorely missed."

Mark's funeral was held from his parents' home on Monday before burial at Cookstown Cemetery.
