Hunt for axe-wielding robber after failed hold-up in Bradbury Place

Police in south Belfast are looking for a man who tried to rob a shop by threatening staff with a hatchet.

The attempted robbery happened in the Bradbury Place area at around 10.10pm on Tuesday.

Police were called to the scene after the man, armed with a hatchet, walked into the shop and ordered staff to open the till. They refused and the man fled the store empty-handed. He is believed to have headed in the direction of nearby Sandy Row.

"No one is believed to have been injured during the incident," a PSNI spokesman said.

"Inquiries are continuing and detectives would appeal to anyone with any information or who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident to contact CID at Musgrave Police Station on 0845 600 8000."
