Illegal fuel plant case: Pair are charged

By Lesley-Anne McKeown

Two people have been charged with offences connected to the discovery of a fuel laundering plant.

The 48-year-old man and 45-year-old woman were arrested after the discovery of an illegal fuel operation at Cullaville Road, Crossmaglen, in July.

The pair have been charged with waste and contaminated land offences including failure to transfer waste to an authorised carrier; keeping controlled waste in a manner likely to cause pollution; and the unlawful deposit of waste.

Newry PSNI commander Chief Inspector Davy Beck said: "Those involved in this type of criminal activity can rest assured that we will continue to work together to prevent, detect and deter this crime and bring those responsible before the courts."
