A company which supplies food to aircraft at Belfast City Airport has been fined a total of £500 for hygiene-related offences.

Flightcare Multi Services UK Ltd, which is part of Swissport and runs numerous outlets worldwide, was prosecuted by Belfast City Council on four counts of breaching the Food Hygiene Regulations (NI) Order 2006.

The offences were detected during a visit by an environmental health officer in October 2014.

The company was fined £200 for failing to keep food premises clean and maintained in good repair and condition.

It was also fined £100 for each of a further three offences: failing to provide wash hand basins and hand drying facilities; failing to ensure that the construction of food premises permitted good food hygiene practices, including protection against contamination and pest control; and failing to ensure that, all stages of food production and processing, food was protection against contamination that would be likely to render food unfit for human consumption or injurious to health.

The company was also ordered to pay £66 in costs.
