In My Day: We quiz Leona Barr on the time of her life

Q. What was your decade?

A. I turned 18 in 1990 and in 1991 was lucky enough to experience the whole Madchester Scene first hand when I visited my cousin at university. We went to the famous Hacienda one night and even managed to dance beside Simply Red lead singer, Mick Hucknall!

Q. What was life like back then?

A. I was working full-time and spending all my money on clothes and clubbing. We travelled to the big clubs in England. I met my husband Rikki in 1993 and got married in 1995.

Q. What were you listening too?

A. Madchester bands like Happy Monday, Stone Roses, The Charlatans and then progressed onto the dance music scene.

Q. And what was the style like?

A. My monthly pilgrimage to Topshop in Belfast kept me bang on trend. I also had an eye for alternative fashion and would shop in second-hand shops.

Q What has changed since then?

A. When kids come along everything changes but for the better. With social media and internet I can dip into the past and show the kids what we did.

Q. What was better back then?

A. We enjoyed ourselves with minimum effort. Girls are preened within an inch of their lives these days. I think the expectation to look like their favourite reality star can be a lot of pressure. We were more laid back and just concentrated on having a good time!
